In 24 hours I was leaving to try skiing for the first time in the Alps. All my gear was in the states and I was woefully unprepared for the conditions that ay head of me in Chamonix, France. Friends in London had told me to go straight to Decathlon – I could find everything from ski jackets and thermals to gloves, hats and even sunblock there. Off I went and for under 100 pounds (crazy!) I had everything I needed for the big winter adventure.
My WED’ZE ski jacket was amazing and held up great, despite the various tumbles I took down the mountain. I was never cold either, even when sipping my aperol spritz after a long day of gliding and crashing down the slopes.
Eye of the Tiger Time
Once I got back from Chamonix and skiing, coincidentally I was contacted by Decathlon to take part in a fun event being held at their megastore in Surry Quays.
Although I was worried that my fellow Decathlon fans would run circles around me, I still wanted to show my support and give the event a try.
I needn’t have worried, as Decathlon had assembled a vibrant, eclectic group of writers to participate, and everyone had a huge smile on their face. It’s game time.
Now I know most of these guys are big runners and athletes, but scavenger hunts are my jam. I wore my trainers and was ready to wipe the floor with these track stars.
But we all played our strengths and ran around the store, finding clues and hunting down various items to tick off our list. I was so surprised to discover Decathlon has 20 of their own brands for every sport you can imagine. Everything is wildly affordable, ethically made and has sustainability in mind.
Sorry to the staff who had no idea what was going on, and only gently chastised us when we had an impromptu bike race and borrowed some camo jackets to wear – you know, for team unity.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
The best part? We took home first place! Bottles were popped and everyone who participated got an amazing collection of some great gear. I used my Domyos fitball for some ab work this morning and the Nabaji microfiber towel at hot yoga this weekend.
I look forward to diving even deeper into the mission and goals of Decathlon in the future and continuing to support a great initiative in the fitness industry. After being thrilled with my own ski gear buys and yoga kit find, I hope to grab some bright new bathing suits too for our upcoming trips to Tenerife and Sri Lanka this month!
Where do you get your sports gear? What are you eyeing for your kits this upcoming summer?
