Independent, Classy & Strong: The Breakers, Palm Beach

There’s brunch, and then there’s brunch on the beach. It’s little details like this that make The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida stand the test of time – in fact, it has been an iconic hotel for more than one hundred years. A bow and smile from all the staff, fresh flowers everyday and perfectly crafted cocktails all set the tone for a glamorous and indulgent experience.

As far as Palm Beach hotels go, this is the only one right on the water and near downtown. Check out this lineup: two golf courses, several high-end dining options, elegant breakfast choices, many balcony/oceanside suites, a luxe spa, four pool areas and so much else in the name of extravagance.

Although we showed up late evening, there was noting to worry about in regards to being taken care of and whisked away to paradise. Check-in was extremely courteous. Like, incredibly efficient. Heading straight for the highly recommended HMF lounge, I was instantly transported to a place with my people. I say this because I often think I was born in the wrong decade – and this was suddenly the 1950s, in sophistication, ambiance, music and libations. Let’s overlook for now that women didn’t have many rights and we were dealing with post-war reality – let’s instead focus on all the wonderful things about this great time in America namely, it’s nightlife. The Breakers has done a stellar job capturing the magic through an eclectic menu of worldy eats and sweet treats.

It would be a real shame if you didn’t spend the majority of your time outside while at the Breakers. Sure the rooms are plush and chic, but venture to the lavish adults-only pool for a few laps or grab a complimentary bicycle and head for the iconic Worth Avenue. Many of the restaurants, including the off-site, Asian-fusion restaurant called Echo, have cozy outdoor seating so you can bask in that breezy, warm air at all times.

In all my travels I never thought I’d be a spa girl, either. But when words like “Guerlian French facial” and “pampering massage” started being thrown around I could hardly say no. My delightful Polish spa attendant ended up being the highlight of my treatment though, as she told me how she went out to grocery shop in Palm Beach and forgot she had a green facial mask on all morning. Happens to the best of us, right?

If I was ever to splurge on something that would show me beautiful things everyday and make me feel like a queen, it would be another trip to The Breakers. See, be seen and enjoy the privilege, as it doesn’t get any better than this.
